Series Review | 2018 | The Bone Island Trilogy (Series) by Heather Graham

In this post I am going to be discussing my feelings/opinions on this Trilogy/series and through out this post when ever i refer to the “trilogy” it will be written as I have just written it now as although its listed as a trilogy technically as there is a prequel novella at the end of it should be refered to as a series as there’s more than 3 books in it. if any of you want to share any of your views on any of the books in the series or the series as a whole then feel free to share them with me.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series as a whole as indeed I did each of the books in the series. All the books were well written and the characters as well as the plots were well-developed and believable.

Ghost Shadow is the first book in the ‘trilogy’ and it sucked me in immediately and kept me hooked to the end due to the authors great writing and overall plot and character development. This book looks at the possible link between the spate of modern-day murders and the years old mystery surrounding the murder of a locals x-fiance. This is based against the backdrop of a young local woman who has a gift for seeing ghosts and ends up embroiled in the mystery herself.       The character development was particularly good because they were developed enough for this book but not so much that they were to overdeveloped to be taken any further in the future books, while also providing complete closure to the mystery that the book was based around in. I enjoyed this book so much that as soon as I’d finished it I immediately started reading Ghost Night the second book in the “trilogy”and I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest.

Ω

Ghost Night, the second book in the “trilogy” and although its based around a different mystery it was great that the main story line from the previous book continued throughout this one as well as the next one “Ghost Moon”.      The book is based around mystery of the two young actors that were brutally murdered while on a film set on a remote Island, Are the murders down to modern-day marauders, the Bermuda triangle or a deadly paranormal echo of the Islands violent history?

I enjoyed this one as much as the first one because I was back in a place which was interesting with characters who I already felt invested in. Apart from getting to know the characters from the first book a little more it was great to meet and get to know the new characters.

The new characters that appeared in this book were all well-developed and believable, so I cant wait to see which of them carry over in to the next book apart from the main one Vanessa Loren. The relationship dynamics between the characters in this book particularly the new ones with the ones from the previous book were really interesting. It was particularly interesting to see how the relationship between Vanessa and Shawn and Vanessa and Bartholomew developed. I enjoyed this book as much as I did the first one so I immediately started reading the next one in the series”Ghost Moon”.

Ω

Ghost Moon, this is the third book in the “trilogy” again in this book although the main story line from the previous two books continued it was based around a new mystery, the mystery  of the Cutter House an old family house that belonged to an eccentric collector and appears to be haunted, or is it, the hoax of a sick minded individual with designs on owning the house themselves.  This book was equally as good as the previous books in the series.

The plot and characters in this book were well-developed and written which made them believable and easy to follow. It was great being back with the characters from the previous books in the trilogy while meeting the new characters from this book,                                                                                             Book information Post        Book Review Post     Weekly Reads Post – Week

Ω

Ghost Memories, this is a prequel for the bone island trilogy and tells  Bartholomew’s (the ghost) life and death, and because of this although it is an interesting story it isn’t essential to read it. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and read it in 24 hours.                                                                                       Book Information Post    Book Review Posts    Weekly Reads – Week 16 Post

The Books that I read or finished reading this week….

Crazy Rich Asians (Crazy Rich Asians 1/3) by Kevin Kwan [Narrator: Lynn Chen                                                                                                                                  Reading Period: 4/12/17 [/3/18] – 1/4/18                                                                      Book Information Pos                                                                                                  I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish although I did find the first 4 chapters a little slow going this was helped when I swapped to the audiobook as the Narrator was brilliant so I was able to follow the story a lot easier. As I was reading the book it was easy to see that the author was writing from experience as well as research that he’d done which made the book’s plot and characters all the more well written and developed. As soon as I finished reading this book I knew I wanted to read the next one as soon as possible so I immediately downloaded the audible Narration for my kindle book as I knew I wanted to read and listen as I did with the first in the series.

Ω

A Thousand Pieces of You (Firebird series 1/4) by Claudia Grey          Reading Period: 12/1/16 [15/3/18] – 3/4/18                                                                 Star Rating:4/5 Stars                                                                                                       Book Information Post                                                                                                 Although it took me a while to read this book I did enjoy it and my enjoyment of it was helped along the way thanks to the skill of the Narrator of the audio book because they portrayed the characters feelings and personalities so well in the way she voiced them. I can not wait to read the next book in the series to see what happens in the story and how the characters grow. It is my intention to read the next book via audio book as it is being Narrated by the same Narrator and I also intend to look for other books narrated by this Narrator.

Ω

Deadly Night (Flynn Brothers Trilogy 1/3) by Heather Graham                       Reading Period: 15/3 [3/4] – 4/4/18                                                                                Star Rating:4/5 Stars                                                                                                      Book Information Post                                                                                                Although this book started relatively slowly it needed to, to really introduce the reader into the background of the story and I was helped over the drag of the slow beginning by listening to the audiobook version for several chapters. The way the narrator voiced the characters in the chapters really immersed me in the story so it made me want to carry on reading the book in e-book format. The characters in the book were developed as much as they needed to be for a first book in a series (trilogy) and plot was thoroughly developed which meant that as the reader I was transported to another place. I was so keen to see what happened next to the characters from this book and see what new characters were going to be brought into the series I immediately started reading the next book in the series.

Ω

Ghost Night (The Bone Island Trilogy 2/3) by Heather Graham                      Reading Period: Read from 17/3 to 6/4 2018                                                            Goodreads Average Star Rating:                                                                                    for more book information click here                                                                         This is the second book in the Bone Island Trilogy and I started reading it as soon as I had finished reading the first book in the trilogy because I’d enjoyed it so much. I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end it was great being back in New Orleans and with the characters from the previous book while meeting the new characters. The book was as well written and the plot well-developed as the previous book.

Ω

Endurance: A Year in Space. A Lifetime of Discoveries by Scott Kelly (Narrator: Scott Kelly                                                                                                   Reading Period: Read from 30/3 to 7/4 2018                                                                Book Information             Book Review                                                                    This is a non-fiction book about life as an astronaut so it is highly science based. I heard about this book from Jen on Jen talks Audiobooks on you(book)tube who recommend it highly on her channel. When I read it via audio book which was narrated by the author which was great in its self and it was as good as Jen said it was.                                                                                  The book was really well written and it was clear that Scotts knowledge of the subject matter. It was also incredibly interesting because the chapters combined his life as an astronaut with his family life as well as his life growing up.

The Books started/continued this week…

Deadly Harvest (Flynn Brothers Trilogy 1/3) by Heather Graham                        Started Reading: 4/4/18                                                                                                 Goodreads Average Star Rating: 4.04/5 Stars                                                               Book Information Post                                                                                            I started reading this book as soon as I’d finished reading the previous book in the series “Deadly Night” because I’d enjoyed it so much. Although I haven’t read much of it so far I can already tell that it is going to be a good continuation to what I am sure will be a great series.

Ω

Ghost Moon (The Bone Island Series Trilogy 3/3) by Heather Graham           Reading Period: Started reading 6/4/18                                                                       Goodreads Average Star Rating: 4.04/5 Stars                                                               for more book information click here                                                                       This is the third book in the Bone Island series (Trilogy) as there is a prequel book called Ghost Memories which means that it’s a series rather than a trilogy. I started reading it as soon as I’d finished reading the previous book in the series because I’d enjoyed it so much. I have not read much of this book yet but I am enjoying it so far.

Book Review | 2018 | Autumn (Seasonal Quartet 1/4) by Ali Smith

Reading period: read from 7th to 9th April.                                                                  Star Rating: 5/5 Stars                                                                                                      For more book info please click here.                                                                          for the weekly reads post that this book refers to click here.

I heard great things about this book from many Booktubers on you tube (simon from Savage Reads, Merceides form merciesbookmusings) all saying how amazing it was which is why I purchased and read it (as a Kindle book with audible Narration(aduio book)). This is an amazing well writen book which was thoroughly engrosing and an interesting take on Britains withdrawl from the EU.                                                                                                    The skill of the Narrator along with the authors great writing made the book a joy to read and the story engrossing.                                                                Ali Smith wrote and developed the characters and plot well so they were beleivable. This along with the skill of the Narrator who narrated the audible narrator made the book engrossing and chilling.                                                        I would reccomend this book to anyone who is interested in reading anything about the current political situation with regard to Brexit and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series Winter as I have heard that its as good as this one.

*As featured on BBC Breakfast, Radio 5Live and Steve Wright in the Afternoon on BBC Radio 2* From the Nasa astronaut who spent a record-breaking year aboard the International Space Station – what it’s like out there and what it’s like now, back here. Enter Scott Kelly's fascinating world and dare to think of your own a little differently. As soon as you realize you aren’t going to die, space is the most fun you’ll ever have... The veteran of four space flights and the American record holder for most consecutive days spent in space, Scott Kelly has experienced things very few of us ever have and very few of us ever will. Kelly's humanity, compassion, humour, and passion shine as he describes navigating the extreme challenge of long-term spaceflight, both existential and banal. He touches on what’s happened to his body, the sadness of being isolated from everyone he loves; the pressures of constant close cohabitation; the catastrophic risks of colliding with space junk, and the still more haunting threat of being absent should tragedy strike at home. From a natural storyteller Endurance is one of the finest examples the triumph of the human imagination, the strength of the human will, and the boundless wonder of the galaxy. * What readers are saying... 'Takes you up into space and lets you be a part of astronaut life' 'Tough to put down! Tells a side you don't often hear or read about for that matter' 'Mind blowing . . . up there with Ernest Shackleton for me' 'My husband said it is the next best thing to going into space yourself' 'Six stars!'

I heard about this fantastic book from Jen when she reviewed it on her BookTube (YouTube) channel Jen Talks audiobooks when Id finished watching the video I immediately got a copy because I was certain Id enjoy it. Initially i got the kindle copy and although I was enjoying reading it I am really pleased that I got the Audiobook not least because it was the author himself who narrated it.

This book was the first one I’d ever read about the life of an astronaut and although there was a lot of Science in it was written in a way that made it very accessible and interesting. I loved the way that Scott wove together the information about his childhood, his life as an astronaut and his personal life (adult)in each chapter because it explained things he was talking about in a very coherent and informative way.

I can honestly say that I will not only read this book again in the future but if he was to ever write any other books then I would without hesitation read them. This is a book that fits into the genres that it belongs to (nonfiction,Memoir,Science) very well therefore I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys books that fall into any of these genres.

If anyone out there has read this book and wants to discuss it with me or just has some views/opinions about it that they want to share feel free as I would to know what others thought of the book.

Although I only read the prologue in the kindle sample that I got I knew I was going to enjoy it becasue that already had me hooked. As soon as I’d read the Prologue I also knew that I wanted to get the audio narration to go with the Kindle book because I knew I would absorb more of the information that I knew the book would contain by listening to it as apposed to reading it. I can happily say that this ig is going to be an fascinating science/aeronautics based non-fiction book.

One of the main reasions this book caught my attention was because it was not onlyabout trave but also about moving to another country.                                                        This was a really well written and evocative non-fiction book which I would highly reccomend. I ended up borrowing an epub version from my Libraries digital lending service as away of making myself read it, because no matter how much I was enjoying reading my kindle copy as there was no time limit on it as there was with the library copy I didn’t feel the need to finish it and I knew I wanted to finish before the beginning of april so I hadn’t been reading for a year.                                                                                                          Now I have read this first installment to the three part memoir I can not wait to read the other two to see how the families life in Spain develops.
