Conrner of American and Joy Road in Detroit, Port-au-Prince Hati

A National Book Award Finalist with five starred reviews! American Street is an evocative and powerful coming-of-age story perfect for fans of Everything, Everything; Bone Gap; and All American Boys. In this stunning debut novel, Pushcart-nominated author Ibi Zoboi draws on her own experience as a young Haitian immigrant, infusing this lyrical exploration of America with magical realism and vodou culture. On the corner of American Street and Joy Road, Fabiola Toussaint thought she would finally find une belle vie—a good life. But after they leave Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Fabiola’s mother is detained by U.S. immigration, leaving Fabiola to navigate her loud American cousins, Chantal, Donna, and Princess; the grittiness of Detroit’s west side; a new school; and a surprising romance, all on her own. Just as she finds her footing in this strange new world, a dangerous proposition presents itself, and Fabiola soon realizes that freedom comes at a cost. Trapped at the crossroads of an impossible choice, will she pay the price for the American dream?

Book Review | 2018 | Autumn (Seasonal Quartet 1/4) by Ali Smith

Reading period: read from 7th to 9th April.                                                                  Star Rating: 5/5 Stars                                                                                                      For more book info please click here.                                                                          for the weekly reads post that this book refers to click here.

I heard great things about this book from many Booktubers on you tube (simon from Savage Reads, Merceides form merciesbookmusings) all saying how amazing it was which is why I purchased and read it (as a Kindle book with audible Narration(aduio book)). This is an amazing well writen book which was thoroughly engrosing and an interesting take on Britains withdrawl from the EU.                                                                                                    The skill of the Narrator along with the authors great writing made the book a joy to read and the story engrossing.                                                                Ali Smith wrote and developed the characters and plot well so they were beleivable. This along with the skill of the Narrator who narrated the audible narrator made the book engrossing and chilling.                                                        I would reccomend this book to anyone who is interested in reading anything about the current political situation with regard to Brexit and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series Winter as I have heard that its as good as this one.

*As featured on BBC Breakfast, Radio 5Live and Steve Wright in the Afternoon on BBC Radio 2* From the Nasa astronaut who spent a record-breaking year aboard the International Space Station – what it’s like out there and what it’s like now, back here. Enter Scott Kelly's fascinating world and dare to think of your own a little differently. As soon as you realize you aren’t going to die, space is the most fun you’ll ever have... The veteran of four space flights and the American record holder for most consecutive days spent in space, Scott Kelly has experienced things very few of us ever have and very few of us ever will. Kelly's humanity, compassion, humour, and passion shine as he describes navigating the extreme challenge of long-term spaceflight, both existential and banal. He touches on what’s happened to his body, the sadness of being isolated from everyone he loves; the pressures of constant close cohabitation; the catastrophic risks of colliding with space junk, and the still more haunting threat of being absent should tragedy strike at home. From a natural storyteller Endurance is one of the finest examples the triumph of the human imagination, the strength of the human will, and the boundless wonder of the galaxy. * What readers are saying... 'Takes you up into space and lets you be a part of astronaut life' 'Tough to put down! Tells a side you don't often hear or read about for that matter' 'Mind blowing . . . up there with Ernest Shackleton for me' 'My husband said it is the next best thing to going into space yourself' 'Six stars!'

I heard about this fantastic book from Jen when she reviewed it on her BookTube (YouTube) channel Jen Talks audiobooks when Id finished watching the video I immediately got a copy because I was certain Id enjoy it. Initially i got the kindle copy and although I was enjoying reading it I am really pleased that I got the Audiobook not least because it was the author himself who narrated it.

This book was the first one I’d ever read about the life of an astronaut and although there was a lot of Science in it was written in a way that made it very accessible and interesting. I loved the way that Scott wove together the information about his childhood, his life as an astronaut and his personal life (adult)in each chapter because it explained things he was talking about in a very coherent and informative way.

I can honestly say that I will not only read this book again in the future but if he was to ever write any other books then I would without hesitation read them. This is a book that fits into the genres that it belongs to (nonfiction,Memoir,Science) very well therefore I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys books that fall into any of these genres.

If anyone out there has read this book and wants to discuss it with me or just has some views/opinions about it that they want to share feel free as I would to know what others thought of the book.

As soon as I’d read the Prologue I also knew that I wanted to get the audio narration to go with the Kindle book because I knew I would absorb more of the information that I knew the book would contain by listening to it as apposed to reading it. One of the main reasions this book caught my attention was because it was not onlyabout trave but also about moving to another country.                                                        This was a really well written and evocative non-fiction book which I would highly reccomend. I ended up borrowing an epub version from my Libraries digital lending service as away of making myself read it, because no matter how much I was enjoying reading my kindle copy as there was no time limit on it as there was with the library copy I didn’t feel the need to finish it and I knew I wanted to finish before the beginning of april so I hadn’t been reading for a year.                                                                                                          Now I have read this first installment to the three part memoir I can not wait to read the other two to see how the families life in Spain develops.

MAN BOOKER PRIZE FINALIST A New York Times, The Washington Post, NPR, Financial Times, Southern Living, The Guardian, and Kirkus Reviews Best Book of the Year Long-listed for the Gordon Burn Prize Autumn. Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness. That's what it felt like for Keats in 1819. How about Autumn 2016? Daniel is a century old. Elisabeth, born in 1984, has her eye on the future. The United Kingdom is in pieces, divided by a historic, once-in-a-generation summer. Love is won, love is lost. Hope is hand-in-hand with hopelessness. The seasons roll round, as ever. Ali Smith's new novel is a meditation on a world growing ever more bordered and exclusive, on what richness and worth are, on what harvest means. It is the first installment of her Seasonal quartet—four stand-alone books, separate yet interconnected and cyclical (as the seasons are)—and it casts an eye over our own time. Who are we? What are we made of? Shakespearean jeu d’esprit, Keatsian melancholy, the sheer bright energy of 1960s pop art: the centuries cast their eyes over our own history making. Here’s where we’re living. Here’s time at its most contemporaneous and its most cyclic. From the imagination of the peerless Ali Smith comes a shape-shifting series, wide-ranging in time-scale and light-footed through histories, a story about aging and time and love and stories themselves.

I dnfd this book as I just didn't connect with any of the characters in the book which meant that even with the audiobook I just didn't want to read it.

While performing the greatest love story of all time, they discovered one of their own... Cassie Taylor was just another acting student with big dreams at her prestigious performing arts college...then she met Ethan Holt. She was the good girl actress. He was the bad boy on campus. But one fated casting choice for Romeo and Juliet changed it all. Like the characters they were playing on stage, Cassie and Ethan's epic romance seemed destined. Until it ended in tragedy when he shattered her heart. Now they've made it to Broadway where they're reunited as romantic leads once again—and their passionate scenes force them to confront the heartbreaking lows and pulse-pounding highs of their intense college affair. For Ethan, losing Cassie was his biggest regret—and he's determined to redeem himself. But for Cassie, even though Ethan was her first and only great love, he hurt her too much to ever be trusted again. The trouble is, working with him again reminds her that people who rub each other the wrong way often make the best sparks. And when it comes to love, sometimes it's the things that aren't good for us that are the most irresistible. Don't miss Leisa Rayven's Bad Romeo, the intoxicating romance beloved by over two million fans online—a story that'll captivate you and hold you breathless until the final page.

Cambridge, 1896. Motherhood and private detecting don't easily go hand in hand, but even with two small children Vanessa Weatherburn still manages to indulge her passion for solving mysteries. When three sombre scholars knock on the door of her family home, Vanessa is presented with perhaps her most puzzling case yet.
