I would like to start this review by thanking Erica for allowing me to read this fantastic book and say that although I received the book review it will not have an effect on my views about it.
I have given this book 5 five star rating because the writing style was great and I will read the book again as well as recommend it to others or buy it as a gift. It was also a good book for the continuation of this companion series (The Dukes of War).
Plot/Story line: This was a lovely easy to read romance book. The book follows the stories of Captain Xavier Grey (who has returned from the war a shell of a man), and spinster Jane Downing (who want’s to be off the shelf and into the arms of a hot-blooded man especially the dark and dangerous Captain Grey). He feels that he’s not deserving of the love and respect of others because of things that he did during the war while she just wants to experience the feeling of love experienced by her friends,
Character (s): There was a lot to the two main characters Jane and Xavier but equally as much to the other characters. Both characters were strong, kind, gentle natured loving, well read people whos love story was captivating. Xavier was also a very broken individual due to the things he’d seen and had to do during the war but the romance that happened between him and Jane was the catalyst for him rebuilding his life because it showed him that he was worthy of being loved.
Summary: I enjoyed this book as much as I did the “The Earl’s defiant Wallflower” and as much as I’m sure I will the rest of the series. Erica’s writing was fabulous as was her world building. The way she described the expectations in the regency period as well as the places and clothing was really evocative and made me as the reader feel like I was experiencing. Especially her descriptions of the clothes as it made me feel like I was actually touching the materials.
